Multimedia Mise-en-scene project

This was the best project yet,

For this project we really were trying to think of ideas until we finally landed on a Minecraft world where we had to build a station for each part of his life. It started in front of his apartment where he likes watching movies so we had to make a tv with a coach for that one with some decorations to give it a homy feeling, then he also likes to throw party's so we built a party room with a dance floor above his apartment. Thirdly we built a gym and bank on the outside with carts to take you there because he works at the bank and likes to work out. Lastly we built a parkour at the end which wasn't super easy but very possible and once you beat it took you to the dog park where he likes to go on his time off.

Our character was a single bank employee which we named Bob Labowski, who enjoys taking their dog to the dog park, working out at the gym, and binging new tv series, live alone but often host parties with friends and family. And for each of the stations we made sure to put details that would match his architype like how we made his room look cozy for watching tv. Since it was done in Minecraft the detail is usually hard to get so we had to put a lot of time to make sure all the details of what he does can come to life while looking good. To show what we thought are character would look like we made a mood board with pictures of the things he does with a made character.
Overall i think we showed the character in a very unique way that no one else did setting us apart from all the other groups which i liked. Furthermore i believe we had the most interactive group by far compared to everyone else's project most groups were lacking interactivity but we were the group that had the most interactive station. It was very fun being able to do this project and get to choose what we did even though it took us a while i believe it was a great project that was very different and stood out while showing our character fully i hope to do another one of these types of projects.

Film Sample #1: 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Analysis: Through the teen romance / romantic comedy subgenre, this movie has been captured by its setting in a high school and addressing of young love. It has the opposites attract cliché with the defiant Kat Stratford and the enigmatic Patrick Verona. The promotion of the film focused on the humor of its dialogue and the attractiveness of the young actors that were targeted at a teenage audience.

Film Sample #2: Notting Hill (1999)

Analysis: The movie Notting Hill offers the classic rom-com format whereby a bookstore owner and a famous actress met. The advertising factors in the movie were the celebrity side of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant and the archetypal London setting. The music is also not forgettable and the lines are quotable which are considered the hallmarks of the successful rom-coms.

Sound Projects

Hello and this will be about my sound project experience,

For sound project 1 you had to think of a scene that could happen in a 1–2-minute timeline in real life and show the scene by only using sounds. You should be able to visualize the scene based on the sounds that you put in and some of the sounds had to be foley meaning you made them with objects and not from the internet. There was a maximum of 7 words that could be said through the whole thing.

For sound project 2, it was a little different. You had to add sound to your one word editing project which is a 60-90 second film with no sound describing a word. So basically, it was sound project 1 but just adding sounds to your film and putting it all together instead of thinking of a whole new idea with no video to show it.

  • For the brainstorming of sound project 1, me and my group just thought of what would be an interesting scene that would be easy to convey with sounds so the audience could easily understand what was happening. Unlike project 2, where me and my partner just looked over the video and we just were thinking about the sounds you would hear every day in an environment like that while also making it more interesting, so you would like it better.

  • The outline always helps so much by being a reminder and a good way to change your ideas. While editing I would get lost just trying to figure out what sound was next or missing and having an outline to check makes it so much easier so you can just go back and look whenever.

  • For editing, we used Clipchamp because we found it the easiest to use out of every other editing software option while also being free.

  • I think for Project 1 everything was put together well but some of the sounds didn't feel natural or like they fit with the scene, you could tell what the scene was, but I think the sounds could have been better fitting everything else was done well. And for project 2 the main issue with that one I think was trying to find sounds that match what we are doing a lot of the time their wasn't sounds for what we wanted to show and just like project 1 some of them sounded a little fake, but i think a lot of the sounds ended up matching and going well and were in sync with the video playing so that was the best part about project 2.
